BMTA AGM and Seminar – 4 June 2009

To be held at The Sheffield Assay Office, Sheffield, England

The 2009 BMTA Annual General Meeting is to be held in the superb new meeting rooms of the Sheffield Assay Office, on Thursday 4 June. The AGM will be followed by presentations about the work of the Assay Office with emphasis on analytical services and assay work including a tour of the laboratory and testing services.

After lunch and time for networking, there will be two further presentations on Laboratory Management Systems. Numbers are strictly limited because of the logistics of the laboratory tours and delegates are asked to book early to attend this interesting event. BMTA members are, of course, welcome to attend
the AGM only without charge.

BMTA was created in 1990 in response to the need for an independent 'lobby' for the private sector to speak with one voice to Government, UKAS, BSI and other official bodies on issues affecting the whole measurement and testing community.

BMTA represents the interests of the measurement and testing industry in the UK and in Europe, through its representation on EUROLAB, the voice for laboratories in Europe.

BMTA will encourage you to make your views known in the standards making process, both nationally and internationally, through the Association and individual membership of relevant committees. We can work to increase awareness of the measurement and testing industry, and provide training, through seminars and workshops, on topical subjects. It is a non-profit making association that is run by a Council elected by its members.

John Boother, Managing Director, Autoscribe Ltd. will discuss the Advantages of Implementing a Truly Configurable LIMS at the BMTA meeting. Matrix Gemini LIMS includes an elegant and powerful suite of LIMS configuration tools designed to facilitate the smooth implementation of a LIMS always to meet the current business and user requirements. The Matrix Gemini OneTime Configuration tools let users automatically build screens once that will automatically work over client/server, the Web and Citrix. The advantages of implementing a truly configurable LIMS will be discussed and demonstrated.

How and how not to buy a LIMS

A New Free LIMS Selection Guide

Autoscribe is offering a new free LIMS selection guide which is based on many decades of practical management experience, specifying and delivering, successful LIMS solutions to any laboratory in any industry. The free LIMS Selection Guide aims to help anyone considering purchasing a new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or Sample Tracking System. It is intended to give some hard inside and honest information that will help keep you on track, avoid some of the pitfalls and get your company the system that it needs. The guide is aimed at those looking for a system to handle sample tracking for a small laboratory through to a full function LIMS for an enterprise / global operation. You might need a system for many or just a few concurrent users.

When to use this guide

You should use this guide from the day from which you start thinking of a new system, up to and even beyond the time of placing the order for a new system. This might be a few months or a few years. If your company already has a system which does all you want, you can stop reading. If you are unfortunate enough to have bought a system that isn't quite right, it might show where things went wrong (remember that more than 50% of LIMS implementations are said to fail!)
